TecFusion
The Aspen Group is working with the Technology Commercialization Center , of Hampton Virginia, to support NASA Langley's TecFusion program.
The open innovation program has a proven track record of creating partnerships between SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) awardees and
major corporations. The program has managed 35 projects since 2004 resulting in the formation of over 70 partnerships between the small technology
companies and large corporations. Twelve TecFusion projects have been initiated in 2010 with sixteen more planned for 2011.
This Open Innovation program provides organizations the opportunity to reach out to external sources for innovation and technologies to compliment
internal core competencies. It also extends IR&D (internal research & development) investments on new products and processes. The TecFusion program
also allows corporations to tap into a huge reservoir of federally funded innovation from small, highly creative, technology companies. This results
in a reduction in product development cycle time and provides the corporation an opportunity to differentiate commercial products and services.
In addition to providing larger corporations the opportunity to surface new, innovative technologies Aspen, through the TecFusion program can open doors for
Small Business Innovation Research awardees with major corporations. Small businesses often find it difficult to advance technologies to a commercial ready
level. This program creates partnerships with large organizations already established in the marketplace. Types of partnerships which have been formed include:
- Joint development programs
- Licensing of the technology
- Purchase of the technology
- Sale of consulting services by the smaller company to the large corporation
- Advanced testing and analysis for the large corporation
- Partnering on government contracts
